Special Features for Alliance Select^SM Members

The BlueCard PPO Program gives you plenty of choices— 80 percent of all U.S. hospitals and nearly 90 percent of all physicians contract with Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans.* Doctors and hospitals will recognize your BlueCard PPO membership by the “PPO in a suitcase” on your ID card.

Here’s How It Works

• Call 1-800-810-BLUE or visit BlueCard Doctor & Hospital Finder to locate the nearest participating doctors and hospitals.
• Present your ID card to a participating Blue Cross and Blue Shield doctor or hospital.
• The doctor or hospital verifies your membership and submits the claim to Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
• The doctor’s or hospital’s local Blue Plan pays the health care provider directly. You are responsible only for applicable deductibles, copayments or coinsurance.
• Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield send you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB).

• Your claims are processed at your PPO health plan’s in-network coinsurance level.
• Blue Plan PPO-provider negotiated prices are typically lower than traditional participating provider prices.
