Copay Waiver Program
This drug card program temporarily waives the member’s cost share for
specially selected drugs for a set amount of time. Program guidelines
will vary depending on the drug and the drug class.
Generic Statin Waiver Program
Try a generic statin (drugs used to treat high cholesterol) and receive
the first one-month supply without having to pay anything at the pharmacy.
Program Details
- To encourage members to try a generic statin, Wellmark is introducing
a generic statin waiver program starting 1-1-09 for drug card members
- This program waives the member’s first cost share for a one-month
supply of a generic statin if the member has not filled a generic statin
in 2008 or 2009
- Three generic statins qualify for the program:
- simvastatin (generic Zocor)
- lovastatin (generic Mevacor)
- pravastatin (generic Pravachol)
- If the member’s plan has a deductible, the deductible must be met
before the cost share is waived, unless the plan waives deductible for
generics or for preventive drugs on a HSA Preventive Drug List
- For the waiver to apply, the prescription must be filled at a retail
pharmacy (mail service pharmacy is not eligible)
- Copay refers to copayment or coinsurance
- Program applies to all members with drug card except for those self-funded
groups who have chosen to “opt out” of the program and Medicare supplement
members
- Program dates for the generic statin waiver program are January 1,
2009, through June 30, 2009
- The program ends on June 30; this will give members time to obtain
a new prescription as well as members who may have just filled a 90-day
prescription an opportunity to participate in the program
